Basketball star launches trademark lawsuit to protect name

Basketball star Chris Bosh has launched a trademark infringement case against the estranged mother of his child.

The Miami Heat power forward is seeking damages and an injunction to block Allison Mathis and Shed Media from using his name and revealing details about his private life.

Mathis has appeared in the VH1 show Basketball Wives, which features individuals who have dated NBA stars as well as their actual spouses.

In a California District Court filing, Bosh said the defendants were seeking to gain commercial advantage from the use of his trademark.

He is arguing that consent was required for the use of his name, and also that the VH1 production gives the misleading impression that he personally authorized the broadcast material.
