Designer seeks trademark for name of urban stars’ newborn

A New York designer is attempting to trademark Blue Ivy, the name of Jay-Z and Beyonce’s newborn daughter.

Joseph Mbeh filed an application for Blue Ivy Carter NYC with the US Patent and Trademark Office on January 11, 2012.

This was just four days after former Destiny’s Child singer Beyonce gave birth to her first child.

A report in the Smoking Gun suggests the trademark application was made without the knowledge or consent of the two urban music stars.

The application is said to cover infant, toddler and junior clothing, such as dresses and skirts, and includes a potential logo design.

It claims Mr. Mbeh began using the name on January 9th 2012, just two days after the birth.

Whether or not Jay-Z and Beyonce choose to challenge the trademark application remains to be seen.
