Domain name system expansion will shake up registration process

The impending introduction of a plethora of new top level domain names will change the face of Web address reselling, it has been claimed.

According to Alexa Raad, the former chief executive officer of the .org registry, the walls between wholesale domain name sellers and companies that re-issue domain names to consumers are already beginning to crumble.

The introduction of new top level domain names will only hasten this process and many domain name specialists will have to re-assess where they are positioned in the marketplace, Raad says.

“The future landscape of the DNS market will be not only challenging but also promising,” she claims.

Raad added that strategy development, benchmarking and portfolio diversification will all be key aspects of future domain name market dealings.

Recently, the Public Interest Registry noted that uptake of its .org domain was increasing.
