The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Board approved the Arab Center for Dispute Resolution (ACDR) as a uniform domain name dispute resolution policy (UDRP) provider.
ICANN said the move will enhance its accountability to the internet community as a whole, while giving UDRP complainants more choices.
The ACDR’s proposal was previously posted for public comment in September 2010 and suggestions received were provided to the ACDR for consideration.
Some of the comments in opposition addressed issues such as the level of fees, while other commenters suggested ICANN develop contracts with each of its UDRP providers as a means to require uniformity among providers.
However, ICANN stated that contracts have never been required of UDRP providers.
The report noted: “This is a positive advancement and helps address concerns of ICANN’s ability to, in the future, identify areas where uniformity of action is of its obligation to abide by ICANN modifications that could enhance uniformity among providers.”
