Visitcuba.com domain name sale nets $100K

Leisure Canada Inc. has announced the acquisition of the visitcuba.com domain name, along with its website and related assets.

The firm has paid $100,000 in cash and awarded 84,746 Class A common company shares to the previous owners.

The visitcuba.com domain name will provide Leisure Canada with an online platform from which it can provide information and other resources to people considering visiting the Caribbean island.

A full website re-launch has been scheduled for early 2012, with the new portal enabling Web visitors to make hotel reservations, rent cars, book specialty tours and find out more about Cuban life and attractions on the island.

Robin Conners, president and chief executive officer at the firm, commented: “The opportunity for growth in the tourism sector is significant. Visitcuba.com fits perfectly with Leisure Canada’s current assets under development and with its broader growth strategy in Cuba.”

In the largest confirmed domain name transaction of 2011, the Web address Social.com was recently bought at auction for $2.6 million.
