Google Announces Launch Plans for .app

Google Registry announced launch plans for .app. The TLD provides a secure namespace for application developers to host, promote, and showcase their products and services. Google added .app to the HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) preload list, which means that secure connections (SSL certificates) will be required for live sites. The use of HSTS requires registrants to take steps to configure HTTPS for their domains in order for them to work in all major browsers. With the exception of these security requirements, the TLD will be a regular, open TLD that is open to all interested applicants. The launch begins with a Sunrise Phase on March 29, 2018, which will run through April 30, 2018. Domains will enter General Availability on May 1, 2018, with a 7 day Early Access Program to start. The registry originally planned to launch the .dev TLD at the same time; however, the launch for .dev has been postponed until further notice, so the registry can focus on the launch of .app. For more information, please contact your Client Service Partner.

.Travel Is On The Move

Donuts acquired the .travel TLD to add to its portfolio of travel themed top-level domains. The .travel TLD has already been incorporated into the registry’s DPML Block coverage. For now, no other changes have been implemented on the process or requirements for registering a .travel domain. The extension joins other travel related TLDs in Donuts’ portfolio, which now include: .city, .cruises, .flights, .guide, .holiday, .irish, .reisen, .tours, .town, .vacations, .viajes, .voyage, .cab, .limo, and .taxi.
